Canada

Did you know Canada's East Coast is closer to the UK than is any other part of North America? In fact it's just an easy 5-hour (on average) flight from London, England to St. John's International Airport in Newfoundland and Labrador, and a 6.5 hour flight to Nova Scotia's Halifax International Airport, two gateways to Canada's East Coast. Atlantic Canada consists of four provinces, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, and the Gaspe' region of Quebec. Between them they have over 4,500 documented shipwrecks. The cold, nutrient rich water supports abundant marine life. The result is excellent diving virtually anywhere you go, plus an abundance of whale watching and fantastic scenery. In the winter the diving does not need to stop with the availability of ice-diving in both lake and sea, plus the opportunity to dive beside some awesome icebergs. The diving on the west coast of Canada is just as interesting. The region owes its abundance and variety of marine life to the temperate water conditions and the geographic diversity of the coast. The upwelling of the currents at the edge of the continental shelf during the summer months brings nutrient-rich waters attracting Humpback whales, Grey whales and Orcas. The seas off Vancouver and Vancouver Island offer a fascinating range of unique dive sites with the many islets and coastal reefs creating habitats for some 400 different fish, 30 different marine mammals, 640 seaweed and sea grasses and 7,000 invertebrates. This is also the best place in the world to find the 6-gill shark. The seas offer brightly coloured corals and anemone, a vast assortment of invertebrate life, thick kelp forests, marvelous visibility and artificial reefs encrusted with fascinating marine life.
