Day 1. Fly overnight to Dar es Salaam

Connect to Mafia Island and the Mafia Island Lodge, where you will spend seven nights.

Days 2 to 8. Mafia Island Lodge [B, D]

Amidst tall palms on a sandy beach in Chole Bay, in the heart of the marine park, are forty comfortable ensuite, air-conditioned rooms with their own verandahs overlooking the bay. The main lodge has a relaxing atmosphere with a large open restaurant, bar with pool table and lounge area. Activities and facilities include: table tennis, volleyball, snorkelling, sailing and a fully equipped PADI dive centre, and there is an internet cafe gift shop, laundry service, telephone and fax. Spend time walking or biking on the nature trails or sea kayaking. Excursions include the Chole Island ruins, dating back to the 15th century and the first Arab settlers, or take a day trip to the northern part of Mafia where you will experience the full diversity of the island's fauna and flora, as well as some of Mafia's most pristine and beautiful beaches.

Day 9. Fly from Mafia to Pemba via Zanzibar [B, D]

Transfer to Manta Reef Lodge where you will stay for 7 nights.

Manta Reef Lodge is one of the oldest lodges on Pemba. Situated at Ras Kigomasha, and pretty much off the beaten track, the drive to the lodge's deserted location is outstanding. Perched on a small cliff face, the lodge overlooks the beach and has breathtaking views. The rustic feel of the place is enhanced by 11 timber chalets, plain simple decor and huge comfortable rooms. All have mosquito nets, sea views, hot water and en-suite facilities. Diving is by One Earth Diving, offering advanced and novice divers safe, professional instruction. They offer daily two tank dives and regular three -tank dives, with picnic lunches eaten on private remote beaches in between dives.

Days 10 to 15. Manta Reef Lodge [FB]

One of only a few places to stay on Pemba Island, so now is the time to dive in areas rarely visited by tourists.
