Deluxe Kenya Diving

14 days London to London

The waters off the Kenyan coast are warm, hospitable and literally teeming with fish; more species have been identified here than almost anywhere else on earth. Along the entire Kenyan coast stretches a vast fringing coral reef, protected in many places from over fishing and development by marine park laws. Here you have the opportunity to swim with dolphins or encounter a fifteen metre Whale Shark. Combining these underwater wonders with a safari is an opportunity not to be missed.
Day 1. Depart overnight for Mombasa
Days 2 to 4. Watamu & Malindi Marine Park [B, D]

Transfer to Watamu, staying, for the next two nights, at the famous Hemingways Hotel. Situated in a beautiful cove on an eight kilometre stretch of sandy beach, the hotels comfortable rooms have ocean views and there are two pools, a restaurant and a bar.

The Watamu Marine Park is one of the finest in Kenya and offers excellent scuba diving and snorkelling. Dive the Mida Wreck, an eighteen metre wreck of a Prawn Trawler, explore an immense 'Rose' Coral or discover Barracuda Reef, a new site where you will find both a diversity and abundance of fish.
Days 5 to 7. Bamburi & Mombasa Marine Park [B, D]

After a morning dive, drive south to the Whitesands Hotel on the north coast of Mombasa, featuring one of the finest beaches in East Africa. The resort is set amongst nine hectares of tropical gardens and boasts five swimming pools, floodlit tennis courts, a water sports centre and one of the best on-site dive centres in Kenya.

Mombasa Marine Park encompasses some of the best coral gardens in Kenya; offering a diverse range of diving activities, from wreck diving to drift reef diving, deep dives and spectacular night dives. An absolute must dive is Vuma Caves; where stunning caves can be explored at a relatively shallow depth. Large fish, Reef Sharks, turtles, groupers and occasionally even dolphins can be found here. Not to be missed is the MV Dania, sunk especially for wreck penetration, with its continually evolving marine habitat.
Days 8 to 10. Chale Island [B, D]
A last, morning dive off the northern Mombasa coast, before heading south to the Leopard Beach Hotel. (For a description of Leopard Beach Hotel, See Southern Kenya Explorer ). Whether you are looking for wrecks or reefs, the area south of Mombasa has a wide variety of excellent sites. However, a highlight is Chale Island and the surrounding fantastic reefs. In addition, between November and February there is an excellent chance of seeing Whale Sharks.
Day 11. Voi Wildlife Lodge [FB]
Leave your hotel early and transfer to Voi Wildlife Lodge in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive. This beautiful lodge, with its twenty comfortably furnished rooms, swimming pool, restaurant and bars, is within the boundaries of the mighty Tsavo East National Park and has a waterhole that attracts a large amount of game, especially Elephant. There is also a game observation terrace from which you have a spectacular vantage point over the water hole 24 hours a day.
Day 12. Mombasa [B]
Time for a couple more game drives before heading back to the Whitesands Hotel.
