Congratulations to our Bali Underwater Photo Workshop Winner!

Congratulations to Lindsay Stratton, who took this winning image on our Bali Underwater Photography Workshop in September...

Run by acclaimed underwater photographer Jane Morgan, the adventure to Scuba Seraya Resort on Bali’s north-east coast proved a huge success. Our band of budding underwater photographers successfully snapped countless critters under Jane’s expert guidance and even came across an elusive mola mola. These huge two-ton behemoths are seen rarely in our oceans, but visit the reefs around Bali seasonally each year to be cleaned.

Lindsay’s fabulous image, focusing on the eye of a black-spotted pufferfish proves a worthy winner in our eyes, displaying imagination and great skill. Here, Lindsay gives us a little background to the shot...

“I’ve always been taught to try and capture images either from below looking up or at eye level and to get as close to the subject as possible. The less water between the camera lens and the subject, the better the image will be.

“I love macro photography and getting in close to subjects. The eye in particular can be really stunning if you capture a reflection of one of the strobes, that shows up some fantastic fluorescent colourisation of the eye ball. Puffer fish have great eyes!

“Right place right time plus a little luck from a willing subject afforded me the opportunity to get the close up detail I love capturing.”

The the competition for Lindsay was tough, with a number of outstanding images vying for the prize. You can find the honourable mentions below...

Lindsay’s winning image features in our new brochure, due to hit your doorsteps very soon. He also wins a £50 voucher to spend at Andark Diving & Watersports.

We'd like to extend a big thank you to trip leader Jane Morgan and to all those that joined the workshop.

If you would like to meet Jane, she will be presenting on the Centre Stage at DIVE 2015 at the Birmingham NEC this October 24 & 25 at 13.40 both days.
