Dominica
Dominica attracts hikers to explore the volcanic interior with its many waterfalls and hot springs. Morne Trois Pitons National Park with its spectacular Valley of Desolation and the famous Boling Lake is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dominica has become known as the 'Whale Watching Capital of the Caribbean' and boasts a 90% success rate in spotting whales or dolphins during a whale watching excursion. Very close to the coast the underwater terrain is unique, where the seascape drops off thousands of feet deep, providing nutrients for whales to feed on and hence their proximity to the shore. This means that Sperm Whales can be seen year round and other frequent visitors include: Pygmy Sperm, False Killer, Dwarf Sperm, Melon- Headed and Orca.
Many fish considered rare in other destinations are seen regularly in Dominica, the fish and invertebrate life in is extraordinary, the sponges large and often decorated with crinoids along the edges. Even for the casual snorkeller, the opportunities are numerous and varied.
