Renowned as the Soft Coral Capital of the world, Fiji is also blessed with incredible marine life encounters. Experience thrilling shark diving in Beqa Lagoon and technicolour drift diving in Bligh Water.
This suggested itinerary covers Fiji’s famous shark diving from resort and the magnificent Bligh Water by liveaboard. Starting in Pacific Harbour and Beqa Lagoon, the Adventure Capital of Fiji, this area is world renowned for its shark diving and the Beqa Fire Walkers. The stretch of water between Viti Levu and Beqa Lagoon acts as a passageway for sharks, and as such became a Shark Reef Marine Reserve in 2004. Up to eight shark species are seen at dive sites such as Cathedral and The Arena, during the Ultimate Shark Experience; bull sharks, whitetip reef sharks, blacktip reef sharks, tawny nurse sharks, lemon sharks, grey reef sharks, silvertip sharks, and even elusive tiger sharks. This is a must for shark enthusiasts!
Heading north, the focal point of any Fiji liveaboard is the rich body of water that separates the two main islands, known as Bligh Water. Here, divers can experience thrilling drift diving along walls, pinnacles that act as a magnet for sharks and manta rays, plus wonderful coral gardens. Divers can also experience the best dive sites around the islands of Namena, Wakaya, and Gau for more superb encounters with larger marine life and reefs teeming with fish life. Longer ten night itineraries head farther east to take in the diving around Taveuni or the Koro Sea, renowned for soft coral gardens and possible encounters with hammerhead sharks. Both Beqa Lagoon and Bligh Water offer world-class diving.
The itinerary below is based on 5-nights at Waidroka Bay Resort in Pacific Harbour and Beqa Lagoon, followed by a 7-night trip on board the Fiji Nai'a Liveaboard. Alternative resorts are on offer that also access Fiji’s iconic shark dives, contact our specialist dive team to find the right accommodation for you.
