The warm, nutrient rich water of the Sea of Cortez is one of the most biologically diverse locations on the planet, and you can expect to see plenty of large marine life including whale sharks, hammerhead sharks and sea lions.
BIG in Mexico is a trip idea for those who are keen on diving this nutrient-rich body of water, which basks in year-round sunshine. The more popular months for varied large marine encounters are December to May from land, or June to October by liveaboard. During the winter and into spring, whale sharks can be seen by day boat, whereas the liveaboards can access further into the Sea of Cortez and head towards Isla San Pedro Mártir, where the whale sharks spend the summer months. Whale watching trips to see the magnificent grey whales are available from Feb-Apr. The iconic mobula rays grace the Sea of Cortez with their presence in huge aggregations called ‘fevers’ from May to July, however these wonderful pelagic can be spotted all year round in this area. Another year-round highlight of this area are the playful sea lions, they gather in big numbers around Los Islotes and Isla Espiritu Santo. Interactions with sea lions are possible when scuba diving and snorkelling, an incredible surface interval activity.

Day 1:
Depart the UK for Mexico
Your overnight journey will involve two flights to get your to your destination.

Day 2:
Arrive La Paz
You will be met on arrival and transferred to your
resort for a week long stay. Rest of day at leisure.

Days 3-7

Dive the Sea of Cortez
Your five day (10 boat dives) dive pack begins today. Diving is concentrated around Espiritu Santo island. Expect a plethora of marine life in this incredible body of water, where over 30 species of marine mammal and 500 species of fish can be found.
Highlights include the 200 strong colony of sea lions at Los Islotes, hammerhead sharks at El Bajo and schooling jacks at Isla Las Animas.

Day at leisure
Spend your day relaxing in resort or venturing further afield to explore all that this beautiful area of the world has to offer.

Depart La Paz
Today you will be transferred to the airport for your flights back to the UK.
