Some of the most accessible diving in the Philippines is to be found in the marine park of Puerto Galera.
About 112 kilometres south of Manila, and an easy two hours road transfer followed by a one hour boat ride brings you to the island of Mindoro. Puerto Galera is primarily famous for its good beaches and coral reefs teeming with marine life.
In 1974 the United Nations declared it a Marine Reserve due to the abundance of exotic fish species seldom seen elsewhere. There are plenty of dive sites to explore year round. Inland, the island offers some excellent trekking through rivers, rice fields, and even up Mt Halcon. Visits to waterfalls, indigenous tribes and pristine lakes with prolific wildlife are also possible.
