Magdalena Bay, formed by Magdalena and Santa Margarita Islands, hosts the incredible Sardine Run. Watch glimmering bait balls and marine predators in action—an unforgettable display of nature’s finest theatre.

Set off on an unforgettable front row seat adventure aboard one of our cosy Pacific Ocean liveaboards in Cabo San Lucas, travelling north along the stunning coast of Baja California. Experience the magic of Magdalena Bay as you anchor overnight in its calm waters, preparing for an exhilarating sardine bait ball expedition.

Magdalena Bay’s famous Mexican Sardine Run is a breathtaking natural spectacle. It’s a feeding frenzy where seabirds, Californian sea lions and striped marlin gather to feast while massive marine species like grey and Bryde’s whales steal the show. Watch in awe as these incredible marine wildlife species dive into the sardine bait balls, creating a scene straight out of a nature documentary. This area is also a known congregation spot for mother grey and humpback whales with their calves, making the encounter even more special. Alongside whales, the bay is alive with sharks, playful sea lions, mahi-mahi, striped marlins, and seabirds, offering one of Earth’s most extraordinary displays of marine biodiversity just waiting to be explored!

Magdalena Bay (also known as Mag Bay) is a top destination for snorkelling and scuba diving enthusiasts. Whether you’re an experienced diver, a snorkeller, or simply a lover of marine life, the Sardine Run in Magdalena Bay provides unmatched opportunities to witness underwater wildlife up close. From encounters with different species of whales to thrilling underwater action of striped marlin hunting in massive schools of sardines, every moment is packed with excitement and wonder.

With Mag Bay’s stunning outer islands, Magdalena and Santa Margarita, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of giant sand dunes that seem to stretch endlessly. The islands are paradise for nature lovers, with mangroves and pristine beaches serving as a haven for bird and wildlife watching. Keep an eye out for incredible species like cormorants, pelicans or majestic frigate birds!

Liveaboard trips in Mag Bay offer 5-, 6- and 7-night journeys with a mix of snorkelling and scuba diving. While the Sardine Run season is short, there are numerous other liveaboards to discover in Mexico. For an even more extraordinary experience, consider extending your trip to dive with hammerhead sharks and mantas in Socorro or encounters with whales, mobula rays and orcas in the Sea of Cortez
