Anse Chastanet, a tranquil hideaway, is ideal for divers and snorkellers. Set in the Soufrière Marine Management Area, the renowned house reef offers exceptional coral reefs and regular sightings of turtles and seahorses.
Nestled on a lush hillside, Anse Chastanet is one of St Lucia’s most scenically spectacular beach resorts, offering breathtaking views over Soufrière Bay and the majestic Piton mountains. The resort and its sister property, Jade Mountain, were designed by architect-owner Nick Troubetzkoy. In close collaboration with his wife Karolin, they developed the property based on a philosophy of open-air, eco-conscious luxury.
The resort features 49 individually designed rooms decorated with local art that creates a distinctive Creole island character. The furniture has been handmade in the region, using local wood such as teak, mahogany, and wild breadfruit. Accommodation is divided between spacious hillside rooms, positioned to capture the cooling sea breezes, and beachside rooms nestled within a tropical garden, just steps from the shore and the dive centre. All rooms are well-equipped with a fridge, tea and coffee-making facilities, hairdryer, and an in-room safe. For those seeking the most sought-after accommodation, the Piton Pool Suite boasts some of the finest views, while the Beach House provides direct access to the sand.
When it comes to dining, the resort presents an excellent choice of restaurants. The Treehouse Restaurant, set amongst the treetops on a hillside, offers contemporary Caribbean dining accompanied by spectacular views. For a more laid-back experience, the Trou au Diable Restaurant at beach level provides a casual lunch menu and themed dinner menus, including delicious Indian and Creole cuisine. A short stroll along the coast leads to the Jungle Grill at Anse Mamin, a relaxed beachside restaurant. In the Piti Piton Lounge, Emeralds serves an entirely vegan menu of modern, tapas-style dishes like breadfruit gnocchi and roasted cauliflower tacos.
Beyond the luxurious lodging and delicious dining, guests can enjoy a wide range of activities during their stay. Two pristine, soft sand beaches provide the perfect spot for relaxation, while the historic Anse Mamin Plantation offers 19 kilometres of private trails for hiking and jungle biking. Watersports are available from the beach, including the best snorkelling in Saint Lucia, windsurfing, paddleboarding and kayaking. For those seeking relaxation, daily yoga classes are held at the beach yoga gazebo, and the Kai Belte Spa provides a range of treatments. Other facilities include two boutiques, a local art gallery, an excursions desk and a tennis court, but for many, the main attraction is the world-class scuba diving.
Scuba St Lucia Anse Chastanet
Conveniently located on Anse Chastanet Beach, Scuba St Lucia is the island's premier dive operation and PADI 5-star centre. The dive centre is renowned for its professional service and excellent safety record. This well-equipped scuba store and dive facility caters to divers of all levels, providing a comprehensive range of SSI and PADI courses from the introductory scuba course to the Rescue Diver, all led by knowledgeable instructors and dive masters. The scuba centre includes a full range of rental dive gear, secure guest gear storage, a retail shop, and a dedicated underwater photo and video centre for keen underwater photographers. Offering both beach and boat dives, Scuba St Lucia runs a fleet of five dedicated dive boats and a catamaran, ensuring quick access to the best sites along St Lucia’s protected west coast, part of a designated marine reserve.
The Anse Chastanet reef, accessible directly from the beach, provides outstanding shore diving and is a superb house reef for both day and night dives; this area is a favourite for many professional underwater photographers. The pristine coral reefs here offer a rich habitat for a wide array of marine life, with regular sightings of needle fish, moray eels, and seahorses, while a night dive often reveals sleeping parrot fish and octopus. Beyond the water's edge, there are over 20 impressive diving destinations within the marine park. Favourites include Superman’s Flight, a famous drift dive beneath the Pitons, the thriving coral gardens at Jalousie, and wreck diving on the Lesleen M wreck, a 50-metre freighter now colonised by dense coral growth.
Most dive sites are a short 15-minute boat ride away, allowing for single-tank morning dives that leave afternoons free for other activities. A 2-tank trip is scheduled on some days, often combining the Lesleen M wreck with a local reef dive. Afternoon excursions regularly explore sites such as Fairyland and Turtle Reef, where divers may encounter hawksbill turtles and eagle rays. For certified divers looking to extend their bottom time, Nitrox is available at an additional charge, as are rental gear and underwater cameras.
