Marine life around Santa Cruz includes sea turtles, sharks and rays, and there are also healthy populations of tortoises, land and marine iguanas and birds on land.

The island is home to the Charles Darwin Research Station and Giant Tortoise Breeding Centre. Nearby Seymour supports the largest colony of magnificent frigatebirds, while North Seymour is home to blue-footed boobies, swallowtailed gulls, sealions and marine iguanas.

The tiny island of Baltra is where you can find one of the two airports in the Galapagos Islands.
