Led by marine biologist and underwater photography expert Dr Richard Smith, this group trip is a must for divers with an interest in all things macro.

Staying at the eco-friendly Dive Into Lembeh Resort, your itinerary combines muck diving, photographic opportunities and expert led talks, providing a world-class opportunity to gain greater insight into this unique marine environment with like-minded individuals.

Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Depart the UK for Manado

    Fly from the UK to Manado on an overnight flight, normally via Singapore. Guests are also welcomed from other destinations. Please enquire.

  2. Day 2: Arrive and transfer to your resort

    On arrival, you will be met and transferred to Dive Into Lembeh Resort, your welcoming home for the next seven nights.

  3. Days 3-8 : Dive Lembeh Strait

    Lembeh Strait is home to a huge array of rare and unusual marine life. Enjoy six days of diving, with two boat dives, unlimited shore diving and complimentary Nitrox for certified divers.

    Richard will join you underwater as well as presenting talks each day. He'll teach you about the marine biology and behaviour of the spectacular marine life and environment in the Lembeh Strait. There will also be plenty of opportunity to build on your photography skills and techniques.

  4. Day 9: Depart Manado

Dr Smith studied marine ecology and evolution, completing the first ecological research on pygmy seahorses as part of his Phd to become one of the world’s leading experts.

Richard spent a number of years as the in-house naturalist at Wakatobi Dive Resort Indonesia and more recently has been the resident marine biologist on board the Dewi Nusantara luxury liveaboard and at Siladen Resort & Spa. An acclaimed photographer and engaging speaker, his work has been published widely in the UK, USA, Europe, Singapore and Australia, including his regular column for Scuba Diver magazine.

He also supports conservation initiatives such as ARKive, The Zoological Society of London,  EDGE of Existence (Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered) and iSeahorse (a citizen science program) with images and expertise. Richard has travelled widely throughout the Asia Pacific region and regularly leads trips to some of the world’s top dive destinations.
