The sharks rebuilding an island…

Discover how Malapascua's thresher sharks are helping the local community recover from the devastation of Typhoon Haiyan.

On November 8th 2013, Typhoon Haiyan tore parts of the Philippines apart, leaving devastation in its wake.

The tiny island of Malapascua lay in the typhoon's path. Malapascua has gained a reputation in recent years as one of the finest places in the world to encounter elusive thresher sharks, who visit the Monad Shoal each morning to be cleaned.

A year later, the thresher sharks are playing an integral role in islands recovery and helping the islanders get back on their feet.

Steve de Neef's fabulous mini-documentary shows how the thresher sharks are helping the island to recover... and how the local community is working to protect the threshers from illegal fishing.

Steve's film was made possible with the help of the shark foundation.
