Murex Bangka is situated on Bangka Island, offering a quieter retreat compared to some areas in Northern Sulawesi.
The resort has three room categories. The Standard Oceanfront Cottages are charming and comfortable, styled with traditional timber. These cottages are on the beachfront with ocean views and easy access to resort amenities. The Deluxe Hillside Cottages are greeted with a refreshing sea breeze and elevated ocean views over the treetop canopy. The cottages are available as a double or twin, with spacious interior and private verandah complete with day bed, perfect for relaxation post diving. The Premium Ocean Front Cottages are close to the ocean, with indoor living area, verandah with outdoor seating.
All Cottages have en suite bathrooms, air-conditioning, WiFi, water dispenser and hot drinks station. There are interconnecting options available for groups and families on all cottage types. Please note that the resort utilises solar power during daylight hours, so there's a slightly reduced supply from 8am to 6pm. Full power runs throughout the night to ensure air-conditioning.
All meals are served buffet-style at the main beachfront restaurant, which features seating on the open-air terrace and directly on the beach. Cuisine is a tantalising blend of Western and Asian flavours, using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients wherever possible. Water, teas, and coffee are complimentary and available at any time throughout the day, while the bar is open for soft drinks, juices, and alcoholic beverages.
Besides diving, Murex Bangka resort is proudly able to offer land tours and other water activities. There's the opportunity to explore Bangka Island itself, with a tropical nature walk. Guests can join guided snorkelling excursions, kayak among the mangroves, and discover hidden marine life in the rock pools. The resort also has its own spa for rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation.
Murex Bangka is the sister resort of Murex Manado, the pair make for a hassle-free combination with easy boat access between the two. There's no time wasted waiting for domestic flights, as guests can dive along the way. There's also the option to combine with Lembeh Resort, covering all northern Sulawesi has to offer.
Murex Bangka Dive Centre
Working as the twin dive centre to Murex Manado, the experienced onsite team are excited to share the underwater world of Bangka Archipelago with guests. Small ratios provide a personal experience; the custom-built dive boats are spacious and offer a comfortable journey.
A full range of PADI diving courses are available, along with AIDA freediving courses. The coral nursery gives divers the opportunity to take part in the Ocean Gardener project, aiming to improve the reef life in the surrounding areas. The dive crew also receive additional training in marine biology and underwater photography. The onsite camera room is extensive with dedicated preparation area and ample charging points.
Over 30 dive sites are available and can be accessed in between five and 60 minutes. Dive sites are relaxed with generally mild to no current. The house reef is a gradual slopping reef, descending to a white sand bottom. Vibrant coral and abundant marine life are prevalent, as well as a host of unique macro critters including frogfish and nudibranchs. Peter’s Sponge is a favourite for spotting dugong and glassfish covered bommies which rest on the white sand floor. Batu Goso is a series of steep, coral-encrusted pinnacles, which provide shelter from the tidal currents, bringing in white-tip reef sharks, black-tip reef sharks, turtles and groupers.
It's also possible to reach dive sites on Gangga and Talise Islands in addition to a few on the mainland, special trips to Bunaken National Park and Lembeh can be arranged during transfer between resorts.
