Placencia in Belize offers access to incredible diving, wildlife experiences, and a glimpse of local culture. A trip to the Belize Barrier Reef and Monkey River will leave you with unforgettable memories.
Placencia welcomes you with the easy warmth of a seaside village, where colourful boats bob in the harbour and over 20 kilometres of golden sand stretches out beneath swaying coconut palms. Here, you can find a welcoming atmosphere, the scent of fresh seafood in the air, and sunsets casting warm colours across the sky. Located on Belize's southern coast, Placencia is a great starting point for exploring the Belize Barrier Reef or the natural beauty of the Monkey River. Whether you're drawn to the underwater world or the rainforest, this destination offers a nice blend of adventure and relaxation.
Your adventures begin as you dive into the clear Caribbean waters. The reefs around Moho Caye, Silk Caye, and Gladden Spit offer a vibrant underwater world, where schools of colourful fish, gliding sea turtles, and occasionally whale shark (in season) can be seen. Then, picture yourself cruising down the Monkey River with a local guide, listening to howler monkeys, spotting colourful motmots, and maybe even seeing a manatee surface beside your boat. Beyond the water, you visit ancient Maya sites like Lubaantun or Nim Li Punit to connect with a rich and fascinating history.

With experienced local guides and small dive groups, you can explore the reef's wonders with safety and insight.
Just a short speedboat ride away, you can find yourself exploring some of the most stunning nearby reefs. Dive famous Pompion Caye, Moho Caye, Laughing Bird Caye, Silk Caye, or Turtle Alley—all less than an hour away. Adventure continues above the waterline - on two days, trade your fins for trainers or river shoes and enjoy two inland tours. There are several options to enjoy, including:
- Take a boat along the Monkey River, keeping your eyes peeled for crocodiles lounging under tangled roots, howler monkeys roaring from the treetops, manatees grazing peacefully, and colourful birds weaving through the canopy.
