The small, relaxed town of Aqaba is steeped in history and culture, and its 25 kilometre coastline offers easy access to over 20 shore diving sites along the fringing reef.
Suitable for divers of all abilities and experience, the dive sites are not crowded and the seas are warm and calm. The colourful marine life, well preserved corals, pinnacles, canyons and walls, together with the pleasant climate make Aqaba an ideal location for year round scuba diving, snorkelling and other water sports. The temperate climate means that water temperature ranges from 20C in winter to 26C in the summer months and on land, it rarely drops below 20C in winter.
One of the most popular dive sites is the wreck of the Cedar Pride, a freighter sunk in 1985, now forming an interesting manmade reef. There is also an anti aircraft tracked vehicle ‘The Tank’, barely 10 metres from the shore. Located by Oliver’s Canyon, it makes a superb safety stop as well as an excellent snorkel site. An underwater photographer’s delight!
Towards the southern end of the marine park lies Tala Bay where the majority of Jordan's Red Sea resorts are located as well as local restaurants, shops and bars.
