The M/Y Amba liveaboard operates exclusive itineraries around the entirety of the magnificent atolls of the Maldives. Enjoy classic and special extended adventures throughout the year.
This modern 33 metre long, ten metre wide vessel is suited to intermediate and experienced divers who want to get away from the crowds and enjoy more time away on board a boat with its own character created by the fantastic crew.
Accommodating 20 guests in ten cabins the Amba is comfortable and spacious throughout. She is exceptionally quiet when cruising. The two luxury cabins feature a queen double bed and are located on the upper deck with their own private furnished terrace area overlooking the bow. The majority of the eight standard cabins feature a queen and single bed, the other (on the upper deck) features bunk beds. All have windows and feature individual air-conditioning units, a fan, storage space and en-suite facilities.
Spread over four decks, facilities include an air-conditioned salon/bar and kitchen area on the main deck. All buffet style meals are served here. Fresh fruit and water, black tea and instant coffee are available throughout the day and be sure to try some of the freshly baked rolls. The partially covered sundeck or the covered open air saloon on the upper deck provide plenty of space to relax after or in between dives. Internet access is available for a local fee.
Each cabin has a secure locker in the salon for storing dive accessories and charging batteries. Divers must have a minimum of 50 dives, be certified to 30 metres with Nitrox to join a trip. It is possible to get certified on board. All diving is from the fully equipped dive dhoni.
The experienced staff and crew offer exceptional customer service, are all first aid trained and encouraged to complete their Divemaster certification. All dives are guided in groups of up to five divers per guide. Private guides are available for a local fee. Nitrox is mandatory and divers are encouraged to bring their own kit as equipment rental is limited.
Amba's season begins in September operating a 10-night 'Classic' itinerary offering up to 25 dives. Available until early December these trips include north and south Malé, Felidhoo, south and north Ari and Rasdhoo atolls. From January to early March, the Amba explores the same atolls, extending the itinerary by a day including up to 28 dives and continues with these from late April through to the end of June. All depart and return to Malé.
She operates a special ‘Christmas and New Year’ 14-night trip with 38 dives departing from Malé heading north, exploring rarely visited sites and ending up in the Haa Dhaalu atoll, retracing the route in January (domestic flight required for these trips). The ‘Tiger Shark’ special is a sought after adventure. Departing from Malé in late March, she is at sea for 25 nights offering up to 55 dives visiting several atolls and Fuvamulah to observe the tiger sharks (minimum of 150 logged dives to join). The other special 14-night itinerary operates in early April visiting the Baa, Raa and Lhaviyani atolls.
The Amba visits areas away from mass tourism with plenty of adventure and a genuine feeling of escapism. Underwater highlights include pristine corals, manta rays, sharks, an abundance of marine life and some wrecks to explore. The trips are recommended for experienced divers due to the remote locations and strong currents. Payment on board is in cash only.
