Home to the second longest barrier in the world and three of the northern hemisphere's four atolls, Belize makes a fabulous liveaboard destination.
Liveaboard itineraries focus on the Lighthouse and Turneffe Atolls. The world-famous Blue Hole forms part of Lighthouse Reef, the northernmost of the three atolls. Originally a cathedral-like cave, the roof fell in 10,000 years ago, leaving a perfectly circular hole. At 40 metres one can see stalagmites and stalactites and swim through the maze of quartz and limestone while marine-life swims below.
Turneffe Atoll is the largest of the three atolls and the closest to Belize’s coastline. It has large mangrove areas, providing a haven for juvenile marine life, and is famed for excellent wall diving and sea gardens. Divers can expect to see eagle rays, turtles, large snapper, jacks on the atoll's healthy reefs.
The itinerary below is based on a seven night trip on board the Belize Aggressor IV.
Typical Itinerary
Day1: Depart the UK for Belize (via the USA)
Due to flight schedules, your journey normally requires an overnight stay in the USA (on the outward journey only). It is likely this will be in Houston, but may vary depending on flight schedule and route.
Day2: Arrive in Belize & transfer to your liveaboard
Up to five dives a day are offered over five and a half days of diving. Divers can, weather permitting, explore the Blue Hole, a collapsed freshwater cave system and one of the most popular dive sites in the region.
Day8: Enjoy an afternoon & dinner ashore
Dinner is at your own expense.
Day9: Disembark & transfer to the airport for your journey home
Day10: Arrive UK
