The on-site PADI 5-star IDC centre caters for recreational divers of all abilities. The two tank daily programme is flexible with destination dependent on local conditions. The RIBs are launched through the surf and all dives are blue water drop-offs.
The marine biodiversity along the coast is incredible, yet the stars of show are the manta rays (alfredi and birostris) and whale sharks, ever present in these plankton rich waters. Expect incredible encounters and a lot more besides; several species of shark, rays and turtles as well as bottlenose dolphins are frequently seen. Combine a dive at ‘Reggies’ and ‘The Office’ for a day of pelagic surprises as well as a resident leopard shark and loggerhead turtle. Gaze in amazement at Manta Reef on one of three cleaning stations as well as observing schools of redtooth triggerfish, snapper and trevally congregating on the north wall. There are several sites in ‘Whale Shark Alley’ with plenty to discover at the ‘Chamber of Secrets’.
Water temperature and visibility varies throughout the year. The wet season runs from December to May yet offers the best visibility (20-30 metres) and warm water (25-28°C) with a 3mm wetsuit fine for most. The water cools to 20°C during the dry season (April to September) and the annual humpback migration occurs. With an average visibility of 10 metres, a 5mm wetsuit is recommended. The centre has a charging station and equipment for rent including 15 litre tanks. Both DIN and Yoke valves are available. Nitrox is available for a local charge.
In addition, ocean safari snorkelling trips, afternoon/evening muck diving adventures and freediving courses are available. The centre is an ECO-Operator as part of PADI’s Project Aware programme and has achieved a PADI Green Star Award.
