Filitheyo is the only island resort on the unspoilt Faafu Atoll, an old favourite choice for many divers who also enjoy large pelagic encounters, spa facilities and a laid-back atmosphere.
The 4-star resort consists of 125 villas surrounded by lush tropical vegetation, located on the island and over the water. The contemporary villas are cosy and traditionally decorated with modern amenities such as air-conditioning, a TV, tea and coffee facilities. Superior and deluxe villas have a day bed on the verandah, whilst a traditional swinging chair (udoli) adorns the sundeck of a water villa. Family villas can be created by inter-connecting two superior villas. WiFi internet access is available in the public areas for a charge.
Facilities include a freeform infinity edged pool with a swim-up bar, a small choice of restaurants and bars, a small gym and library and a range of water sports and land based activities. The popular spa is an oasis of calm nestled in the heart of the island surrounded by lush foliage and stunning tropical gardens. A Werner Lau dive centre is on-site for all your diving needs.
The island is located on the eastern side of the atoll where you’ll find the most spectacular array of dive sites and amazing diversity of marine life. What’s more, it’s likely you’ll be the only divers there.
The transfer to the resort is is a 35 minute seaplane journey from Malé International Airport.
The Werner Lau dive centre is PADI, SSI and CMAS affiliated. Daily boat dives operate to the 30 local sites and day trips to the channels are offered throughout the week for more experienced divers. Personal diver training is available from as young as eight years old.
The house reef has eight entry/exit points and features a colourful wall on the north side as well as two purposely scuttled wrecks to explore. Both manta rays and whale sharks have been seen on the house reef, which is probably why most visitors spend their time diving here.
Your underwater experience will include a variety of dive sites from coral bommies, to overhangs, wall diving and shallow reefs. Whether you’re on ‘Route 66’ where eagle rays, large grouper and shoals of snapper frequent, critter hunting in the calmer waters on the inside of the atoll at ‘Sunny Reef’ or enjoying the coral gardens at ‘Fish and Chips, you’ll be amazed at the biodiversity and abundance of life found here.
