Mataking Island is the ideal getaway for divers to explore a superb variety of sites, which provide home to a wonderful array of marine species, both small and large.
The Mataking Islands make an excellent home base for a diver, with 10 sites around Mataking itself and over 20 more in the surrounding islands, Eel Garden, Coral Garden, Nudibranch Garden, Turtle Playground, Lobsters Lair and Hump Head Point provide a few of these highlights.
With few divers, you can enjoy the schools of barracuda and Spanish mackerel swirling around you as you search the reefs for giant frogfish, mandarin fish, and rare pygmy seahorses. Ribbon eels and leaf fish can also be found among the soft and hard corals covering the Mataking reefs, and if you are lucky you may even see the elusive orangutan crab in all its fuzzy glory.
