Enjoy amazing diving adventures on board the Rocio Del Mar, a comfortable owner operated liveaboard. Diving itineraries are offered throughout the year to the Midriff Islands, Sea of Cortez and Socorro.
The mid-range vessel features 10 well appointed stateroom cabins with a mix of double and twin beds, all with en suite bathroom and air conditioning. Eight cabins are on the main deck and two are located behind the bridge, these have a lower double bed and upper single. Facilities include a spacious lounge, covered sitting area and plenty of storage space in the cabins and on the dive deck. The trips are affordable and the boat offers all of life’s creature comforts, but most importantly, amazing adventures in the Sea of Cortez, a body of water dubbed ‘the world’s aquarium’.
Itineraries include up to four guided dives a day (conditions permitting). The crew includes three dive masters, one for each of the accompanying zodiacs used to manoeuvre guests to dive sites, as well as islands for hiking trips. As conditions and water temperature can change during the week, we recommend packing a 5mm wetsuit. Nitrox is available.
Located in the northern reaches of the Sea of Cortez, the Midriff Islands rise from the depths and span over 80 miles. Lined with golden sandy beaches and inspiring vistas, the area is seldom visited. Week long trips operate here from July to September and offer dramatic diving experiences with an incredible biodiversity of life in the nutrient rich waters. Underwater highlights include sightings of nudibranch, frogfish, octopus, several species of rays, turtles, sea lions, pilot whales, dolphin and an incredible snorkelling experience with the whale sharks at Bahia de Los Angeles.
September and October offer the chance to explore more of Baja with limited trips operating from one end to the other and vice versa; an experience that very few people have. It’s an adventure for all with opportunities not only to dive the Midriff Islands and sites around Espiritu Santo in the south, but visit villages, go hiking on uninhabited islands, kayak and snorkel amongst the incredible diversity of marine life. Expect encounters with several species of whales, dolphin, huge schools of fish, sea lions and whale sharks. It’s a magical experience.
The Rocio Del Mar also visits the Revillagigedos Archipelago from November to May. Socorro being the most well known, is the most diverse in flora, fauna and topography. The nine day trips offer world-class diving opportunities, most notably with giant Pacific mantas. The islands are a magnet for plenty of other pelagic species; expect encounters with dolphin, sharks and humpback whales in season.
