Migrating from their Antartica feeding grounds, along the New Zealand coast, Humpback Whales stay in Tonga from July, where they court, mate and calve. These energetic and inquisitive whales offer a thrilling sight - their spectacular habits include breaching, lobtailing, spyhopping and slapping their enormous pectoral fins. They are slow graceful swimmers, who often show little fear of boats.

Nai'a's Tonga Humpback Whale Expeditions include excellent scuba diving opportunities, with at least one dive planned each day and the option of spectacular afternoon and night dives on the coral reefs. With great good luck you may even find yourself diving with whales!

The nine day trips begin in Tonga's capital 'city' of Nuku'alofa and extend north into the coral atoll wilderness of the remote Ha'apai group. Here you will find the greatest number of Humpback Whale pods.
