Chimborazo Adventure by Chiva Express

- Day 1. Quito to Riobamba [FB]
- 'Ride the roof' of the Chiva Express and experience fully the panoramic views of the slopes of Cotopaxi volcano and the fertile Valley of Latacunga. Continue by bus to Riobamba, at the foot of the imposing Chimborazo volcano, where you will overnight.
- Day 2. Riobamba and Chimborazo [FB]
- Breakfast at the wonderful house-museum of Marco Cruz, world-class mountain climber, photographer and author, before donning native riding gear in preparation for a four-hour horseback ride (moderate-to-steep) through the breathtaking Andean scenery. Stay overnight at a mountain inn: 'Star of the Chimborazo.'
- Day 3. Trail of the Yungas [FB]
- The Trail of the Yungas, is an ancient pass linking the sierra with the coastal lowlands. Hike past dry, puna ecosystem and a small forest of the ancient and rare polylepis, or paper tree. After lunch take a spectacular drive along the flanks of the Chimborazo, where herds of vicunas graze. Back to the 'Star of the Chimborazo' for dinner and overnight.
- Day 4. Chimborazo to Cuenca [FB]
- The Chiva Express to Alausi, experience the thrill of one of the world's most impressive feat of rail engineering, the Devil's Nose switch backs. Drive south along the Andes to Cuenca, where you will overnight, visiting the magnifi cent Ingapirca Inca Ruins en-route.
- Day 5. Cuenca [B, L]
- Discover Cuenca, a World Cultural Heritage Site, with its red tiled roofs, cobblestone streets, flowery plazas and museums. In the afternoon you will transfer to the airport and on to Quito.
