Sanbis Island

Gizo is a 90 minute flight from Honiara and is the capital of the Western Province with sparkling lagoons, volcanic scenery and evoking vivid memories of World War II. It has a vast array of fish & fauna plus some sensational World War II wrecks. The Western Province is comprised of a scattering of islands, many uninhabited. Most of these islands are ringed by coral and offer a wide variety of dive sites, from shallow water atolls to plunging walls. The marine life is astounding and so spectacular it has some of the most photogenic seascapes in the world. The Sanbis Resort is located on a secluded island approximately seven minutes from Gizo by boat. Set amidst coconut palms is your bungalow with its verandah overlooking your own secluded beach. ('Sanbis' actually means 'sandy beach' in the Solomon Pijin language). You will enjoy uninterrupted views across the lagoon with a fantastic reef right at your door step. The number of bungalows has been limited to five to ensure privacy for everyone. Enjoy snorkelling in front of your private bungalow in 30 degree waters, join activities provided by Solomon Watersport located at the in-house PADI dive centre or simply relax to your heart's content. A highlight is the fantastic meals prepared by a Swiss trained chef. By following environmental guidelines, Sanbis Resort hopes to minimize the impact on the aquatic ecosystem whilst contributing to environmental, economic and cultural conservation. The latest technology has been used to recycle all waste. The lighting throughout the resort is powered by solar energy. The layout of the resort is such that a minimum amount of trees had to be cut. For every tree cut five were planted to replace it and every effort has been applied to utilise sustainable resources in the building of the resort.
