Nusa Island Retreat

Situated on an idyllic sandy island, just off the coast of Kavieng, Nusa Island Retreat is surrounded by superb swimming beaches with crystal clear, coral encrusted lagoons teeming with marine life, and with WWII ship and plane wrecks close by. The Retreat offers a range of activities including surfing, diving, fishing, kayaking, exploring and cultural activities.

Accommodation is in traditional island style bungalows, most of which are set at the water's edge and all of which have great views. The Retreat is designed to be low impact and eco-sensitive, the first of it's kind in Papua New Guinea, with centrally located, communal toilets and showers using dry composting and utilising ground water for showers and washing. Drinking water is an unlimited supply of fresh rainwater.

The waters surrounding Nusa Island and Kavieng offer experienced divers excellent wreck diving, drift diving, deep and shallow reefs, coral walls, sheer drop offs, barrier reefs, atolls, passages and caves aplenty. Strong currents flush clear waters from the deep sea over the abundant reefs and tiny passages, resulting in pelagic activity. There are also pristine coral gardens, sponges, nudibranchs and tropical fish, with five species of dolphin inhabiting the region.

Diving here is year round, the best months being May to December. Nusa Island Retreat's on-site dive shop operates snorkelling and diving for experienced divers who enjoy exciting dives in currents.
