Melinda Sailing
Vava'u's underwater wilderness is home to over 100 species of colourful tropical fish, giant clams, Manta rays, sea turtles, Spinner dolphins and, of course, the Humpback whales! The warm tropical waters have visibility that often exceeds 30 metres and the archipelago has a near perfect climate for year-round sailing. The Melinda is a great base for exploring some of the more remote islands, where she is often the only boat at an uninhabited island, and caters for all levels, from novice snorkellers to advanced divers.
A 15 metre traditional sailing ketch, the Melinda offers comfortable accommodation for four adults, or five to six if small children are in the party. She has a three metre inflatable dinghy, which allows guests to explore some of the 40 beautiful islands of Vava'u, visit a reef for snorkelling and approach the whales. This traditionally rigged vessel allows guests to give a hand with the sailing if they wish, or just to relax and enjoy the journey.
The Melinda is ideal for those who wish to charter a boat just for themselves. Accommodation is simple, but comfortable, with private aft and forecastle cabins and a small forward cabin, with two single bunks, which is perfect for children. There is a hot water shower and 'sunshowers' on deck. There is a comfortable dining area, although meals are often taken on deck, and an extensive library, with works on reefs and marine life, Humpback whales, Tongan history and environmental issues.
