Mataking

The Reef Dive Resort is the latest addition to the many diving resorts in Sabah; situated on Mataking, a 16-hectare island not far from Sipadan, it is just 40 minutes by boat from Semporna on the mainland. The Reef's eight chalets and twelve deluxe rooms are built in traditional style, offering good accommodation, with satellite TV, internet and spa.

Mataking and the surrounding islands of Pandanan and Bohayan, boast over 30 dive sites; from slope diving at the western shores, offering macro fauna and nudibranch heaven, to wall diving at the eastern shore, offering pelagic marine life in the Alice Channel which is over 100 metres deep.

The dive centre offers three boat dives a day and unlimited house reef diving as well as optional excursions to Sipadan and Mabul. On the island, where Green, and Hawksbill Turtles come to lay their eggs, you can also take the chance to re-enact Moses' miraculous crossing of the Red Sea by taking a stroll to the sandbar that connects Mataking and Mataking Kecil at low tide.The water literally separates and you don't even have to wave your hands - Mother Nature does it all for you!
