Lakshadweep Islands

10 days London to London

Perhaps the charm of the Lakshadweep islands lies in their remoteness; far off the beaten track they attract few tourists, and the number of visitors allowed on any island at a given time is strictly controlled. Or perhaps it is the beauty of the islands, densely covered with coconut palms and surrounded by an unbroken line of creamy sand. The majority of the 36 coral islands comprising Lakshadweep are uninhabited and there are just two privately owned resorts, on Bangaram and Agatti.

Lakshadweep diving is spectacular and akin to the Maldives, but without the crowds. The best diving is from November to May, with large numbers of Manta Rays from October to December. Manta, and Eagle Rays, Moray Eels and Green, and Hawksbill Turtles are common sights and if you are lucky you maybe escorted by a pod of Asian dolphins. Water temperatures are generally around 26C.
Day 1. London to Kochi via Dubai
Day 2. Arrive Kochi
Upon arrival, transfer to the Hotel Casino for one night. The air-conditioned hotel offers en-suite bedrooms, a swimming pool, health club, multi-cuisine restaurants and a Bar. Enjoy an evening sightseeing trip of this former princely state, now famous for exquisite gold jewellery, taking in the beautiful Parsi Synagogue, the 16th Century Dutch Palace and St Francis' Church.
Day 3. From Kochi to Bangaram [FB]

Fly to Agatti then transfer, by boat/helicopter, to Bangaram Island Resort, where you will spend five nights. (Note: the boat transfer operates from 16th September to 15th May, at other times the transfer is by helicopter.)

On India's southwest coast, Bangaram Island Resort is situated on an exotic and virgin beach. Accommodation comprises 30 tiled roof beach huts with palm-thatched verandah and en-suite facilities. The resort offers basic accommodation and is well-managed, with good, buffet style, food. Activities include scuba diving, deep-sea fishing and excursions.
Days 4-7. Bangaram Diving [FB]
Bangaram is home to Lakshadweep's only dive centre, which offers two boat dives a day, catering for all abilities. Marine life is abundant and unspoilt, and there is an impressive diversity of dive sites. From Shallow Point, maximum depth fifteen metres, with the likelihood of Sand, and Leopard Eels, Lionfish, Sting Rays and White Tip Sharks, to Thinnakara Hill, separated from the main reef with stronger currents and a depth of 25 metres, with big schools of Jacks, Eagle Rays and humpheads, the biggest of the Parrotfish family. From the 200 year old galleon wreck 'The Princess Royal' to the precious black corals and panoramic views at Grand Canyon.
