Coastal Labrador offers the adventurous diver a step back in time and an unforgettable challenge. Apart from numerous shipwrecks, HMS Raleigh at Point Amour for example, Labrador has many historical areas such as the former Basque Whaling Station at Red Bay and the deserted island fishing community of Battle Harbour, only accessible by boat. Divers must be 'self-sufficient' and prepared to plan and work hard to achieve their diving goals in the area but the rewards of visiting some of the World's least explored underwater sites and the opportunity to locate new wrecks are entirely worth it.Spectacular scenery and local culture, typifying a time when life was less hectic, enhance the overall experience and make an expedition to the area a voyage of discovery which will be etched in the mind forever.
Sample Itinerary for Expedition Labrador: (Itinerary is a sample only and is subject to change. Limited overnight travel due to ferry timings, etc may be required.)- Day 1. Arrive St. John's.
- Transfer to Ocean Quest Adventure Resort.
- Day 2. Conception Bay, Newfoundland [B]
- Dive on Bell Island Shipwrecks, Conception Bay. Depart by road for Western Newfoundland and Gros Morne National Park.
- Day 3. Dive Western Newfoundland [B]
- Depart by road & ferry for Labrador. Arrive L'Anse Au Claire.
- Days 4 & 5. Labrador [B]
- Dive L'Anse Au Claire and L'Anse Amour areas. (E.g. HMS Raleigh and HMS Lily) Depart by road for Red Bay.
- Days 6 & 7. Dive in Red Bay area [B]
- Historic wrecks and harbours (e.g. Henley Harbour).
- Day 8. Battle Harbour [B]
- Depart by road and RIB for Battle Harbour.
- Days 9 & 10. Dive in Battle Harbour area [B]
- Depart by RIB and road for L'Anse Au Claire.
- Day 11. Dildo, Newfoundland [B]
- Depart by road & ferry for Dildo, Newfoundland.
- Day 12. Dive on Whalebones, South Dildo [B]
- Move to Conception Harbour to dive on the wrecks of whaling ships. Depart for Newfoundland.
- Day 13. Conception Bay [B]
- Dive on Bell Island Shipwrecks.
- Day 14 & 15. Homeward [B (Day 14 only)]
- Depart St. John's, arriving home the next day.
- Day 15. Arrive home
