Easily accessible by ferry or air is the small, laid back island of Carriacou. Located to the north-east of mainland Grenada and known as the 'Land of Reefs', Carriacou is the largest of Grenada's sister islands. Hardly touched by tourism, Carriacou makes for an ideal twin centre option with Grenada or the Wind Dancer liveaboard. The diving here is unique with a large variety of species from the smallest nudibranch to the three metre Nurse Sharks. The healthy marine life now has the added bonus of two artificial reefs in the form of two twin tugs that were sunk in 2004 and 2007. Both wrecks are at a maximum depth of about 28 metres and have already attracted significant coral growth and marine inhabitants.

There are no large hotels in Carriacou which is all part of the charm. Green Roof Inn is a small family run guest house located on a gentle slope a hundred feet from the sea. This is an ideal base from which to explore Carriacou and only a short fifteen minute walk to the dive centre in Hillsborough, where you will also find a selection of shops, cafes and restaurants. It must be stressed that Carriacou has hardly been touched by commercialisation and that is part of its charm. Carriacou may not suit those seeking the facilities normally associated with a developed infrastructure. The restaurants, cafes and shops are simple and most will close on a Sunday.

The Inn has five simple and individually designed rooms, equipped with fans and mosquito nets. Most rooms have private facilities and lead off from the verandah. There is also one private cottage. Although there is no swimming pool it is only a short walk to some beautiful beaches.

From the second floor restaurant and bar there are marvellous views across the Caribbean Sea. The restaurant is open for dinner and breakfast.

Silver Diving is a PADI 5 Star Gold Palm IDC Centre located in Hillsborough and is owned by long term residents of Carriacou, Claudia and Max. They are passionate about both diving and Carriacou. With a personal and friendly service they offer two boat dives a day, with night diving and day trips on request.
