Anthony's Key Resort, Roatan
10 days London to London [FB]
-
Roatan's reefs and drop-offs teem with colourful marine life and are ideally suited for novices and experts alike. Surrounded by the longest barrier reef in the hemisphere, Roatan offers everything from hard-core wrecks and deep fissures to peaceful eel gardens and shallow terraces where countless macro photo opportunities abound. Coral grows thickly on walls that begin as shallow as seven metres below the surface and drop into the purple depths of the Caribbean. Squadrons of Eagle Ray, schools of brightly coloured tropical fish, the occasional meandering shark are just a few of the sights that delight divers. Several large wrecks have also been submerged near the resort, awaiting exploration.
The fully accredited dive shop offers a variety of PADI courses. There is also the opportunity to dive with dolphins at the Institute for Marine Sciences, which is attached to the resort. Other activities include sea kayaking, horse riding, canoeing, windsurfing and island tours. The avid snorkeller has a dedicated 15 metre flat-top boat, in which to tour the reef and unveil Roatan's rich waters.
Anthony's Key Resort is an exquisite native-style resort of 56 individual wooden cabanas with fully-screened louvred windows from floor to ceiling, private bathrooms, ceiling fans and either a porch or a verandah with hammocks. Some of each room category are air-conditioned.
