Thrilling shark encounters and vibrant reefs await in the remote Jardines de la Reina off Cuba’s southern shores. Considered one of the of the world’s best managed marine reserves, the waters here burst with life, supported by a wide range of pristine habitats such as seagrass beds and mangrove forests.

No visit to Cuba would be complete without spending time in Havana, Cuba’s colourful capital. From beautiful colonial era architecture and gorgeous plazas to imposing communist statues, classic American cars to music clubs where salsa spills on to the streets, Havana represents a veritable cocktail for the senses.

Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Fly to Havana

    On arrival, you will be transferred to your city centre hotel for two nights.

  2. Day 2: Explore Havana

    Today is free to explore the city. You may wish to spend some time in Habana Vieja, the old colonial centre, with its beautifully restored plazas and cobbled streets, perhaps stroll down the famous seafront Malecon, or take a ride in a classic car.
  3. Day 3: Join your liveaboard

    Early this morning, begin your journey south to meet your liveaboard. Spend the the rest of the day settling into your surroundings and meeting your fellow divers.
  4. Days 4-8 : Dive Cuba’s remote Jardines de la Reina

    Up to three dives a day are offered from Avalon’s fleet of liveaboards. Choose from the Tortuga houseboat or the luxurious Avalon I or Avalon II vessels.

    The Jardines de la Reina offer one of the most diverse and probably the healthiest marine life in the Caribbean, with exceptional visibility, hard and soft corals and colourful sponges. Several shark species are also to be found in this area, including silky, lemon and great hammerhead sharks, together with whale sharks seasonally.

  5. Day 9: Disembark and return to Havana by road

    Spend a final night in Havana soaking up the culture or heading out to a salsa club to finish your holiday in style.
  6. Day 10: Depart Havana

    Enjoy a day at leisure before your evening flight back to the UK.
  7. Day 11: Arrive home

You should note: Permits to dive Jardines de la Reina are strictly limited and booking in advance is highly recommended. Guide price based on the Tortuga vessel. Supplements will apply for other liveaboards.
