Adventure in Mexico; a holiday experience to dive for

Mexico boasts a warm tropical climate, an immense marine biodiversity and some unique world-class diving opportunities on both coasts of this vibrant destination.

“We cruise through the gin like water at a beautifully calm pace; we are astronauts in inner space. I am hooked. The only noise is that of a droplet of water. We float. We breathe it all in. This is diving bliss.”

It's an incredible place to visit for both divers and non-divers with beautiful beaches, an ancient history and culture, amazing culinary delights and plenty of adventure for all the family. Boasting a warm tropical climate Mexico offers amazing diving opportunities in the Caribbean Sea on the east coast and the Pacific Ocean on the west.

Mat Howell, from our expert Dive team, recounts his trip to the stunning caverns of Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula where divers and snorkellers can enjoy a unique holiday experience and the chance of a whale shark encounter.

The Sea of Cortez is thought to be one of the most diverse seas on the planet with the widest variety of whales and dolphins, and home to nearly 900 species of fish. This warm body of nutrient-rich water basks in sunshine throughout the year and is home to many endemic species as well as pods of pilot whales, sea lions, dolphin, jumping mobula rays, whale sharks, hammerhead sharks, turtles and orca.

Those looking for adventure of a different kind should consider Guadalupe Island, famous for its population of great white sharks. The remote island is only reached by liveaboard and is available for non-divers too.

Is a dive trip to Socorro on your bucket list?  The remote location attracts large concentrations of pelagic species and is renowned for close up encounters with giant Pacific manta rays , inquisitive bottlenose dolphin, migrating humpback whales and up to seven species of shark including schooling hammerheads in season.

The Caribbean coast boasts colourful reefs and turtle encounters. It's a great place to learn to dive as well as enjoying some relaxed reef diving. Those seeking a little more adventure should visit the Cenotes where divers and snorkellers are welcome. There are plenty of amazing drift dive sites around the island of Cozumel. During the summer months (Jun-Sep) whale shark enthusiasts are able to snorkel at Isla Mujeres during the seasonal aggregation of these amazing creatures.

If you would like to read Mat’s full article about his diving experience in the Cenotes is on page 15 of our seasonal dive brochure, (manta ray on front cover) which is available to view online at your leisure.
