Mount Kinabalu at 4,101 metres looms above the coastal lowlands of northern Borneo. The National Park is easily reached from Sabah’s capital, Kota Kinabalu and harbours remarkable botanical diversity.

These include more than 1,000 species of orchid, and more than one third of the island’s pitcher plants. There are also more than 600 species of butterflies and 320 species of birds. This astonishing diversity is greatest on the lower slopes, whereas more endemic species are found at higher altitude.
