Crowned lemurs and Sanford’s brown lemurs are frequently seen here and reptiles are abundant, especially a wonderful array of chameleons, and numerous leaf-tailed geckos.

Located towards the island’s northern tip, Montagne d’Ambre is reached by flying to Antsiranana (Diego Suarez), from where it is less than an hour by road. Two waterfalls, Cascade d’Antomboka and Cascade Sacrée, form focal points, and there are crater lakes (Lac de la Coupe Verte and La Grande Lac) and viewpoints over the forest and surrounding area.
