Djibouti
Part of Djibouti's appeal is its lack of tourists. The country is a boisterous blend of colonial French and modern Arabic. What it lacks in major attractions it makes up for in buzz, and travellers are often regarded as curios and treated to traditional African hospitality. Where the Red Sea flows into the Indian Ocean, the diving and snorkelling is fabulous. The area around the "Devil's Cauldron" is renown as a "whaleshark kindergarten", and you have a fantastic opportunity to dive and snorkel with these gentle giants - as they are still giants even when just children!
