Australia
The Great Barrier Reef - Needs little introduction, nearly everyone has heard of the largest natural construction in the world. However, the reefs magnificent 2300kms is actually composed of a series of over 2100 individual reefs and 500 islands stretching from Papua New Guinea down to the Queensland coast and covering an area as large as Great Britain. This marine wilderness and nature reserve offers a cornucopia of flora and fauna with 400 species of coral, 1500 species of fish, 4000 species of mollusc, 500 species of seaweed and 200 species of birds.
Western Australia with its vast expanses, remoteness and isolation, is a state of spectacular diversity in its landscape and environment. Western Australia's extensive coastline will match your imagination with spectacular underwater adventures. From reefs to wrecks, from unspoilt coral atolls - with near vertical sides dropping 400 metres (1311 feet) - to limestone caves. Swim with the Whale Sharks and be awe-struck by Giant Manta Rays. Ningaloo Marine Park, Western Australia's equivalent of the Great Barrier Reef, runs alongside North-West Cape for 260km and is less than 100m offshore. In addition to over 200 species of coral, its waters are inhabited by more than 500 species of fish, as well as turtles, Dugongs and dolphins. It is along this reef that the world's largest fish, the Whale Shark, comes to feed every year between March and June. It is no wonder that to swim with these huge majestic creatures is an awe-inspiring experience - one that is considered the ultimate marine adventure.
