Exceptional diving experiences are to be had at Sali Bay Resort, located in a protected bay in south Halmahera. Surrounded by pristine nature and off the beaten track, it’s a diver’s paradise.

This modern resort is perfectly located for divers and nature enthusiasts looking to explore this remote location at the heart of the Coral Triangle. Twelve individual villas line the palm fringed beach, all a few steps from the sea. The spacious, air-conditioned wooden units include a double or twin beds, en suite bathroom, camera table and a small fridge. The wide private verandah is furnished with sun beds, table and chairs.  Further along the bay, the diver’s lodge comprises four smaller rooms in one building; all are air conditioned with en suite bathroom and verandah and are also right on the beach.

Located in the middle of the resort, facilities include a restaurant and bar serving international and local cuisine. A small swimming pool is nearby and the intimate spa offers traditional Indonesian treatments. The well equipped dive centre is located near the jetty. WiFi internet access is available. Only cash payments are accepted for local extras.

Whilst the official wet season is November to March, the resort is open throughout the year. Located on a small island, it is a short drive from the airport followed by 45 minute speed boat journey.

Sali Bay Diving Centre

Located on the beach at the end of the jetty, this full service dive facility operates daily boat and house reef diving. The resort owns three large custom built dive boats with plenty of space, each with a maximum of twelve divers on board plus two speedboats for up to four divers where required. In addition, there is a dedicated camera room for photographers.

Diving here is incredible. The remote location offers exclusivity on dive sites and opportunity for exploratory diving in addition to the 70+ sites that have already been mapped. Expect an immense biodiversity of marine life amongst the coral reefs, on the muck sites and out in the blue. Big schools of large fish, reef sharks and plenty of critters, they’re all represented in this remote region at the heart of the Coral Triangle. The house reef is suitable for divers and snorkellers. The colours and wealth of marine life here is exceptional plus you have a high chance of seeing tuna and dolphin, as well as several species of whale.  It’s a diver’s paradise.

Equipment is available to rent. Twelve litre aluminium tanks with DIN valves are provided and Nitrox is available.
