An exceptional ‘beach & bush’ lodge based on a strong concept of ethical and ecotourism, Nuarro Lodge is situated on the beautiful Baixo do Pinda Peninsula.

Located on the unspoiled shores of Nanatha Bay in northern Mozambique, a visit to this beautiful lodge offers more than a getaway; it’s an experience like no other. Built from local materials by the local villagers, the two cottages and ten chalets are nestled amongst the sand dunes, all overlooking the azure waters of the Indian Ocean. The bush offers privacy to each building which features large doors and fans for natural ventilation, a king bed which can be converted to twin, mosquito net, comfortable furnishings, open bathroom with separate toilet and a spacious living area incluing a verandah with a hammock.

Facilities include a two kilometre white sand beach on which to relax, kit up for diving and snorkelling, or partake in one of a number of amazing activities available here. All meals are taken in the panoramic restaurant and cocktail bar on the west end of the beach. At the other end, the reception area, beach bar, small shop and activity centre offer visitors a place to relax the day away or begin an activity (mountain biking, kayaking, dhow sailing, bird watching to name a few). There are no TVs at the lodge and WiFi internet access is available in the reception and beach bar.

The eco-lodge generates its own electricity and clean water using renewable energy. They work closely with the local community ensuring that they benefit from the growth of responsible tourism, including the employment over 60 friendly locals from nearby Nanatha village, which guests are free to visit during their stay.

Transfer time from the closest airport is four hours by car. Alternatively, private charter flight transfers can be arranged. The resort is closed annually from mid-January to mid-March.

Dive Centre

The PADI affiliated dive centre offers daily shore and boat diving opportunities as well as full range of courses from beginner to dive master. Diving in the protected bay is ideal for all levels of diving as well as snorkellers. Step from the shore onto the house reef which has a gradual sloping bottom down to the start of the continental shelf where more challenging sites are available for experienced divers. There are over 15 local sites to explore, exclusively for guests at Nuarro.

The shallow house reef is a great place to learn to dive and for photographers to discover an amazing array of macro life. This is also where night dives are done and Fluro diving is available. Head out to Fish Alley and you will be mesmerised by the number of fish species found at the cleaning stations. The Gorgonian Forest is a magnificent drift dive and Lobster Coves is full of life, notably several species of shrimp and butterfly fish, blennies and gobies.

Underwater, dive along dramatic topography including vertical drop-offs, swim-throughs, pinnacles, caves and coral bommies full of life. Discover the weird and wonderful keeping an eye out for unusual creatures such as the hairy pygmy pipehorse and doris ananas, a species of nudibranch discovered here by the resident marine biologist. The pristine reefs are home to an incredible diversity of marine life: snapper, grouper, bat fish, rays and turtles are often seen and there’s a resident Napolean wrasse at one of the sites. Humpback whales are seasonal visitors (Aug-Oct).

Visibility is 20-30 metres and the average water temperature is 27C. A full range Scubapro equipment is available to rent and tanks range in size from 7-14L with both DIN and INT valves. Nitrox is available and the resort is rebreather friendly.
