Alphonse Island is both remote and extraordinary, and needs to be experienced to be believed. Lying at the heart of the Indian Ocean, it boasts adventures and exceptional marine encounters like no other.

The single idyllic resort comprises of five beach suites and 22 beach bungalows, all nestled amongst nature with plenty of privacy and only steps from the beach. Decorated to complement the natural environment, the luxurious accommodations are air-conditioned and comfortable, with an en-suite bathroom, mini fridge and furnished verandah. The bungalows have an outdoor shower; the suites are suitable for families and all come with a bicycle in order to explore.

The incredible atmosphere of undisturbed solitude, relaxed island pace and authentic unspoilt experience will make you feel like you’re the only person on the island.

Facilities include the open air Bijoutier restaurant and Le Lys bar where guests meet each evening to chat through their day of activity. Fresh produce is farmed on the island and the delicious cuisine varies throughout the week including local Creole, barbeque nights and international dishes complemented by a comprehensive wine cellar. The main lodge houses the reception, an open air library and seating area with snooker table, as well as a swimming pool, boutique, tennis court and small spa. WiFi internet access is available here.

Topside activities and experiences include non-motorised water sports, snorkelling, sunset cruises and island tours. The unspoilt waters of Alphonse and St François Atolls are notorious as a world-class fly and game fishing destination, with a strict catch and release policy. In addition, the Island Conservation Society has been established here since 2007. The centre monitors the key aspects of the ecosystem including the nesting turtles, the giant tortoise, endemic and migratory birds, coral reefs and fish populations (including manta rays), as well as protecting the island’s flora and fauna.

Arrivals to this remote and extraordinary destination are by a private charter flight from Mahé and an overnight stay here pre-trip is mandatory. The resort is closed in June and July for annual maintenance.

Alphonse Dive Centre

The fully equipped PADI dive resort is located a short cycle ride away across the island. The dynamic and professional team provide a personal diving experience to all, whether you’re a seasoned diver, interested in learning or wanting to further your diver education.

The daily schedule includes up to three dives a day from one of two custom built boats, licensed to carry up to ten divers with equipment in full comfort. Dawn and night dives are available on request.

Whilst dive sites continue to be explored and mapped, there are 30+ pristine sites to discover during your stay, most within 30 minutes of the island. The conditions are perfect and combine to offer crystal clear warm waters with an incredible abundance and diversity of marine life. The exclusivity and intimate group sizes provide a dive experience like no other.

There are plenty of underwater highlights including frequent sightings of green and hawksbill turtles, large groups of schooling barracuda and humpback snapper, tawny nurse and grey reef sharks, oriental sweetlips, potato cod, dogtooth tuna, eagle and manta rays. The list is extensive.

The wall at Abyss offers photographers an impressive scenery, but be sure to keep an eye on the blue for passing pelagics. Arcade is a U-shaped reef with holes and overhangs where larger fish can be seen sheltering from the gentle current and Wonderland is a beautiful site for all, with plenty of colour and a fantastic diversity of life. It also makes for an incredible night dive.

Full equipment rental is complimentary when diving here. The water temperature is a constant 28C and visibility around 30 metres. Nitrox is available. Alphonse is a true underwater paradise.
